PROVIDE EXCELLENT PUBLIC SAFETY

Novi has one of the most professional and highly trained public safety departments in Michigan.  Novi also has one of the most cost-effective public safety departments due to the consolidation of Police and Fire Department under one Public Safety administration as well as our combination Fire Department staffing model.

I have continuously supported fire and police resources to adequately meet our growing City.   I have supported millions of dollars to ensure those who protect us have the equipment and training they need and deserve.  I also support the accreditation of our Police, Fire, and Dispatch services.   

I’m so grateful for Novi’s first responders who put their lives on the line to protect us. 

If re-elected as your Mayor, my top priority will be continue to Public Safety and providing Quality Core Government services.

 

RESPONSIBLE AND RESPONSIVE GOVERNMENT

As a property taxpayer in the City of Novi, I take fiscal responsibility very seriously and treat every dollar spent as I would my own.  There is no doubt fiscal responsibility has been a hallmark of my time on City Council.  My professional experience in Corporate Finance also makes me uniquely qualified in this area. 

I am proud to have worked with the Mayor and my colleagues on City Council to be stewards for Novi’s taxpayers.  Novi’s strong financial position is evidenced by:

  • Novi has a fund balance in the General Fund in excess of 30% 

  • Novi has a AAA bond rating from S&P

  • Novi’s underfunded Pension position has drastically improved over the past 10 years

  • Novi’s post-retirement fund is well funded for future needs

  • City Tax rates are among the lowest in Michigan for a City our size and debt is at an all-time low

If re-elected as your Mayor, I will continue this strong financial performance.

 

IMPROVE BASIC SERVICES AND ENHANCE QUALITY OF LIFE

In addition to Public Safety, the main function of local government is to provide basic services and enhance its resident’s quality of life.  This includes investments in infrastructure such as roads, neighborhood streets, and water and sewer.  But we can’t also neglect our parks, sidewalks, and trail networks.

During my time as Mayor and on City Council, Novi has consistently allocated over $10M a year on our local roads.  We have also invested in connecting our sidewalks and implemented a new program to ensure we are maintaining older sidewalks.

I’ve also supported the purchase of additional parkland, including 90 additional acres adjacent to ITC Sports Park. I’ve also supported the improvements made at Lakeshore Park and Pavilion Shore Park as well as the installation of inclusive play structures at Powers Park.

The City also recently swapped land with the school district which will allow us to preserve Bosco fields, a prime piece of undeveloped land in the middle of our City, for generations to come.

If re-elected as your Mayor, I will continue my efforts to improve basic services and enhance quality of life.

 

 ENCOURAGE RESPONSIBLE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

With proper planning and adherence to our Master Plan, we can encourage responsible and sustainable development in the City of Novi.

When done correctly, development can provide for job and economic growth, add much needed services and amenities to our residents, and diversify our tax base to pay for critical city services. Responsible and sustainable development means getting these benefits, but ensuring we do not do so at the detriment of our infrastructure, woodlands, wetlands, or community character.

During my time as Mayor and on City Council, I have encouraged responsible, compatible, and quality development and re-development. I have also led efforts to acquire and preserve small pockets of quality wetlands and woodlands including over 12 acres in the last year.
